Full Job Description

We do everything we can to make sure that our networks run smoothly around the clock. Sometimes, events happen that are outside of our control, and this is when our Response Pod Team will really make a positive impact to our customers.

You will be responsible for:

1. Support the Response Pod Team in delivering an efficient and effective 24/7 service with no avoidable failures in service delivery.
2. Respond to issues as directed by Operational Response and Operational Control Teams, providing regular feedback to ensure that risks are understood, and customers are kept up to date with progress throughout our response. You'll be responding to a wide variety of issues ranging from single customer contacts to major failures of large diameter water mains. You'll be responsible for investigating, pinpointing the fault, and taking action to resolve the issue.
3. Provide service to customers directly in response to urgent issues and ensure that customers are fully informed about what happens next.
4. Utilise all emergency response equipment available to restore supplies as quickly as possible in the event of failures, whilst ensuring that water quality is not compromised, and the environment is protected.
5. Support the delivery of planned work on the Distribution network ensuring that risk assessment/method statements are followed, and safety and water quality are put at the forefront of everything we do. You'll support with carrying out leakage detection and maintenance tasks to ensure that we meet our business targets.
6. Monitor contractors' performance through carrying out inspections and safety conversations. You'll ensure that people in our supply chain understand the importance of the highest standards of safety and service to customers. You'll review contractor RAMS to ensure suitability for the task being undertaken, and issue Permits to Work / Certificates of Isolation to enable works to proceed.
7. Carry out dynamic Risk Assessments on-site to ensure that hazards are identified, and risks mitigated or reduced as far as possible. You'll ensure that activities undertaken comply with all Health and Safety legislation and DCWW Health & Safety policies.
8. Carry out routine daily checks on vehicles in order to comply with Road Traffic Act requirements and to ensure compliance with DCWW Operators Licence. You'll be required to accurately record and report defects.
9. Recording all activities in the relevant corporate systems (SAP, PowerApps, Procedural Forms) to ensure that there is an auditable record of our actions.
10. Taking Water Quality samples from tankers and other temporary supplies, in line with our procedures, to ensure that the water we supply our customers meets the standards we expect. You'll need to support with ensuring that logistics arrangements are understood and complied with to transport samples to our laboratory in time for analysis each day.
11. Support the Operations Supervisor and Compliance Teams with ensuring that HGV drivers hours are accurately recorded, monitored, and never breached.
12. Ensure chlorination of tankers, bowsers, and hoses is completed and recorded when necessary.
13. Ensure availability of tankers and kit is communicated effectively so informed supply interruption mitigation is completed.
14. Ensure any water quality issues or risks are escalated immediately.
15. Participate in a standby rota and undertake any other duties that may be required to meet business needs.

    Demonstrable experience in working with other colleagues & external suppliers deliver high standards of safety compliance and performance

  • Experience in working to stringent Health and Safety procedures and regulatory targets/constraints and a proven track record in delivering to high standards and levels of compliance

  • Practical experience in carrying out operational activities, working to deadlines, and delivering positive results

  • A good understanding of water service delivery processes and measures of success

  • Transferable practical skills which will prove beneficial to carrying out reactive operations, fault finding & operating the water network

  • Ability to problem solve quickly and effectively whilst ensuring that safety is never compromised

  • Able to demonstrate discipline to follow procedures with a strong focus on attention to detail

  • Able to demonstrate experience in delivering innovative solutions to solve problems

  • Able to work as part of a team, supporting others and understanding the importance of working together to deliver results

  • Ability to develop positive working relationships across the organisation

  • Strong communication skills and able to communicate situations, challenges, and risks effectively whilst working remotely

  • Ability to deal with customers, colleagues, and external stakeholders in a professional manner, promoting a positive image of Welsh Water at all times

  • Evident drive for results - demonstrates interest and ability to learn new things, takes initiative, welcomes problems as challenges, finds solutions to problems

  • Competent in the use of IT

  • Possess a Class C & E driving licence (HGV Class 1) is desirable but not essential
