Full Job Description

We are looking for volunteers of all ages to help for a few hours per week at our shop in Kingsmead, Farnborough. For many people, our shops will be the first contact they have with Phyllis Tuckwell, so you really are the warm and welcoming face of our charity! As well as receiving donated items from the public and promoting our Gift Aid scheme, you'll help with sorting, steaming and pricing donated stock and setting it out on display for sale. You'll also serve customers at the till and assist with any enquiries made over the phone. Be part of an energetic volunteer team who believe passionately in the work of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care... Flexible shifts from Monday to Saturday, for a minimum of two hours anytime between 9am - 5pm. Applicants must be age 14 or over if participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme (for which special arrangements are made), otherwise you must be age 16 or over. You will be required to undertake mandatory in-store training alongside a staff member.What skills do I need? Purpose of role: Supporting our shop staff in running the shop which generates vital funds to provide services and care for patients with life limiting illness. Key duties include:

  • Receive donated stock from the public and promote the gift-aid scheme
  • Assist with the preparation of donated stock, including sorting, steaming, pricing, merchandising and stock rotation
  • Assist in creating a warm and welcoming environment
  • Operate the till; dealing with both card and cash transactions
  • Help keep the shop clean and tidy
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained
  • Assist with customer enquiries over the phone or in person.
  • Training and Support:
  • In-store training alongside staff member
  • Hospice induction (optional).
  • Special conditions:
  • Over 14 (Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme), otherwise 16
  • 2 x references
  • Adherence to all current policies and procedures of the Hospice including those relating to health and safety.
