The Retinal Screener will carry out digital retinal photography and visual acuity examinations together with a range of administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the Diabetic Eye Screening Service.
This job will be within the standards set out by Diabetes Screening NSC Guidelines.
This role will be based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital., An opportunity has arisen in the established Bedfordshire Diabetic Eye Screening Service for a Retinal Screener. The Retinal Screener will carry out digital retinal photography and visual acuity examinations together with a range of administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the Retinal Screening Service.
This role will be based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, organised and methodical in their approach. We want you to be customer and people focused, caring about our patients and being passionate about delivering an exceptional service at all times., To undertake the procedure of retinal screening using digital retinal photography.
To carefully explain the procedure to the patients and discuss the possible outcomes that may arise from the test.
To test visual acuity and instil dilating drops.
To liaise with the Trust's IT department and the company who provide the software package used, ensuring the systems are fully functioning whenever possible.
To keep the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme Manager informed of issues and problems that may arise.
To liaise and work closely with other screeners
To collect and maintain accurate and operational data including demographic, clinical and retinal information and to be scrupulous regarding the integrity of the data collected.
To take part in ongoing audit, research and development activities for the Diabetic Eye Screening Service
To undertake the City and Guilds NVQ in Diabetic Eye Screening or equivalent, if not already a holder.
Be flexible in working arrangements to cover for annual leave and sickness etc.
To work as part of the Diabetic Eye Screening / Diabetes team establishing and maintaining professional relationships with staff, patients and visitors.
