NHSBT Tissue and Eye Services is the largest multi-tissue banking organisation in the UK and Europe. We are a significant leader in the development of national and international standards, policies and regulation in the field. Working as a key part of our team in this fast moving and variable environment, you will play an essential role in the donation of tissues from deceased donors that will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives. Once trained and fully competent as a Retrieval Team Supervisor, you will be retrieving a range of tissues from recently deceased donors, including eyes, skin, bone and hearts etc. This will be either independently or with another team member. You will be responsible for training new starters, existing team members and others in the retrieval of these tissues. Retrievals are carried out over a wide geographical area, therefore a full valid UK manual driving licence is essential. If you are interested in this unique and rewarding

Main duties of the job

You will work flexibly across the range of activities as rostered and will additionally assist in developing the service in anticipation of future clinical needs. Your responsibilities will include: Assist the Retrieval Team Manager to ensure a functional tissue donation service is delivered at a local team level. This includes, roster management, stock management, mentoring, staff training, performing tissue retrievals from deceased donors in various settings such as hospital, Hospice, Funeral homes. Leading the retrieval of tissues (eye, bones, tendons, skin, heart) from deceased donors. Be a proactive member of the Tissue and Eye Services team. Integral to the provision of a 7 days a week tissue retrieval service. Ensure efficient working and productivity maintaining accurate records. This role requires the ability to drive a manual vehicle. You will be required to travel extensively, including overnight stays, spend time away from base when required (with appropriate prior
notice). The retrieval teams operate from 08:00 to 21:00, 7 days a week, with a 7.5-hour working day. Shifts typically run from 08:00-16:00, 10:00-18:00, or 13:00-21:00 on a rotational basis, including weekends. Flexibility in working patterns is essential, as retrievers work 5 out of 7 days.
