Are you a Nurse who is thinking of returning to practice?, Return to nursing practice students undertaking this role will be expected to:

• Recognise and consistently work within the boundaries of the role whilst developing skills,
knowledge and competencies to progress their education and training.
• Take responsibility for balancing the requirements of the job role, with ongoing academic study, seeking advice and support as appropriate from practice supervisors and assessors, the education team, and their university if applicable.
• Actively pursue all opportunities and use protected learning time to develop their skills, knowledge and competencies.
• Be actively involved in providing direct and indirect compassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team.
• Undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care duties and be expected to work under direct or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.
• Assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi professional team.

• Assist in the recording of fluid balance, reporting discrepancies to a registered practitioner
• Assist the patient with all aspects of their personal hygiene.
• Assist in the safe moving and handling of all patients utilising appropriate equipment.
• Assist the patient with their elimination needs; including bowel and urinary catheter care.
• Provide care for patients with reduced mobility; to include skin integrity, pressure area care and measurement and application of anti-embolic stockings

• Carry out clinical observations on patients, recognising, recording and reporting abnormalities and changes in patients' condition to the registered practitioner
• Utilise early warning score indicators to recognise any patient deterioration/sudden change in condition, reporting immediately to the registered practitioner.
• Prepare and undertake interventions consistent with evidence based practice, through applying knowledge and skills to determine nature of the clinical care intervention required to meet patient's requirements for care.
• Evaluate and review the effect of any interventions and the patients agreed plan of care and report outcomes of interventions to the registered practitioner.
• Collect equipment for clinical procedures as directed by the registered practitioner.
• Safely dispose of equipment, post procedure, restocking where appropriate

Theory is taught at the University. If you are wishing to undertake this course, then you will need to apply additionally to BU. The Test of Competence is made up of two parts - a theoretical test known as the CBT and a practical test known as the OSCE. We will support you with OSCE preparation using our simulation suite and skills stations. Both options are funded by NHS WTE.
