Six vacancies have arisen within the in-house Highway Team who deliver the day to day maintenance of the highways and footway networks within Gateshead., The vacancy is available at the Highways depot at Shearlegs Road. You will work a standard 37 hour week, Monday to Friday.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of working in the highway maintenance or construction industry together with a forward thinking attitude to ensure the service continues to build on its previous successes. A full, clean driving licence is desirable with Category C entitlement.

A NRSWA Operative certificate is desirable as is knowledge and experience of Construction Health and Safety legislation in relation to highways works., A broad knowledge of highways works including traffic management, drainage, street lighting and signage.

Experience of:

Trade background with relevant on-site work experience.
Experience of working with a wide range of highways materials.
Operation of relevant plant and machinery.
Working in a self-disciplined manner to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of workmanship, NVQ or equivalent in relevant trade background.
Current CSCS Health and Safety Compliance Card or equivalent
Hold relevant skill and H&S qualifications to operate relevant plant and machinery.
Hold or be willing to work towards
