Full Job Description

The internship is integral part of Langford Vets' commitment to outstanding care and dedication to learning. You will rotate through our core disciplines of Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedics, Emergency and Critical Care, Anaesthesia, Imaging and Neurology. In addition, you will support our first opinion out-of-hours service, you will have elective time to spend on other disciplines of your choice and weekly teaching sessions will be provided. You will be an integral member of the team in the hospital, including supporting the nursing staff and assisting with undergraduate teaching of both vet and nurse students during their rotations on clinics. Our programme is suitable for those looking to progress their careers by undertaking a residency or those who want to improve their skills as general practitioners. As an exciting new feature for 2025, our internship programme will kick off with a four-week intensive training course organised by our Langford Academy to ensure you are fully prepared for the year ahead! This course will include a fantastic mix of hands-on practical training, case-based teaching and engaging lectures all aimed at elevating your skills and setting you up for success., To support the provision of high-quality clinical service at the Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital, working under the supervision of senior clinicians in anaesthesia, critical care and emergency medicine, internal medicine, neurology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, diagnostic imaging, oncology and dermatology. To support the training of undergraduate veterinary colleagues. They will utilise the experience gathered during the provision of clinical cases to develop technical and non-technical skills. As part of the provision of clinical services the role holder will contribute to out of hours care within the Langford Vets group. Note this is a 12 month fixed term position. Annual leave must be organised dependent on service needs during this time.,

  • Participate in the provision of clinical support to all disciplines as part of the rotations, including supervised primary case care, assistance with cases supporting senior clinicians and residents.
  • Participate in the provision of out of hours services to the small animal hospital and practice, including support of primary care emergencies, in patient care, consultations and procedures.
  • Participate in the provision of anaesthesia services to the small animal hospital.
  • Undertake activities to support ongoing development and training notably relating to:
  • + Clinical research + Academic study related to the different rotations + Participate in journal clubs and other organised learning activity
  • Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our, clients, employees, and students.
  • Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.
  • To contribute to veterinary teaching to undergraduate students, including one to one and small group teaching, and assessment.

    Applicants must be eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to practice in the UK and must have at least one year's experience working in first opinion practice., At least 1 year in general practice or equivalent
  • MRCVS (or ability to gain) Communicate effectively with all clients and staff Ability to work effectively within a team Good organisational and prioritisation skills Ability to work under guidance of senior staff
