Full Job Description

In Elective Orthopaedics the case load is a combination of patients who have had joint replacement surgery, upper and lower limb surgery, spinal surgery, and some Trauma cases. The team provides a service to two wards, a pre-assessment clinic and day-case patients. The Elective service has implemented the Leicester Enhanced Arthroplasty Pathway (LEAP) to assist in reducing length of stay. In trauma there are three inpatient trauma wards including a spinal ward and a dedicated fractured neck of femur ward. Applicants must be able to manage a varied and complex clinical caseload, undertaking functional assessments and interventions to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning. You will demonstrate sound communication, sound prioritisation and organisational skills within a large multidisciplinary team. The Trauma team is based at the Leicester Royal Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic team player who will be actively involved in service improvement. Your personal development will be supported through appraisal, in-service training and regular clinical supervision with a senior colleague. Alongside the other Band 6 OT you will be required to support our rotational Band 5's, Technical Instructors and OT Assistant and to deputise for the Clinical Specialist OT to ensure the smooth running of the team. You will be required to work on our weekend roster, including bank holiday rosters.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030). We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence
  • And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities. Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team
  • This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

One permanent post, 37.5 hours per week. (Part time/Flexible/Bank may be considered). Are you an experienced Band 5 or an existing Band 6 interested in working in Orthopaedics? We have an exciting opportunity available to recruit to a yearly rotational post between Elective and Trauma orthopaedics. This is a permanent contract.
