Full Job Description
In this dynamic role, you will report to the Aerodrome Wildlife Control Supervisor (AWCS) and be responsible for conducting aerodrome rounds, deploying bird and wildlife deterrents, and training and flying falcons for bird control duties. You will also care for and inspect the falcons daily, ensuring their well-being and effectiveness in their roles. Additionally, you will manage the safe usage and storage of firearms and pyrotechnics, contributing to the overall safety of the aerodrome. Beyond the aerodrome, you will also work to safeguard, RNAS Merryfield and the local area from wildlife risks, ensuring a balanced coexistence between our operations and the surrounding environment.
Key roles and responsibilities:
Ensure safe and correct usage and storage of firearms and pyrotechnics.
Comply with Health and Safety regulations.
Inform Air Traffic Control (ATC) of Aerodrome Wildlife Control (AWC) activities and bird concentrations.
Conduct aerodrome rounds based on current wildlife threat levels.
Operate in compliance with Wildlife and Countryside Act Regulations.
Monitor and report on aerodrome habitat conditions.
Assist in the care and wellbeing of falcons, including weekends and public holidays.
Assist in training and flying falcons for bird control.
Provide briefs and presentations on Bird/Wildlife Control as directed by the AWCS.
Maintain record keeping entries in various logs.
Ensure cleanliness, fire prevention, and security of the AWCU office, surroundings, and vehicle.
Care for and inspect the AWCU vehicle according to Motor Transport (MT) Orders.
Perform additional tasks as directed by the Duty Air Traffic Control Officer (e.g., removing foreign objects, re-briefing drivers, escort duties).
