Full Job Description

Working as part of a small specialist team of Audio Technical Officers, you will be required to provide an effective and efficient specialist support to the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services Imaging Unit in relation to Forensic Audio. This includes assessing speech and sound in recordings from a variety of sources and devices, the editing and audio enhancement of these recordings, and the subsequent production of audio products to a high technical standard to aid in the investigation and detection of crime and for the presentation of evidence in court. The Source material provided for enhancement is typically of poor quality with the key aim of the practitioner being to improve speech intelligibility and or quality., Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard. For a detailed description of the Competency and Values levels required, please refer to the Competency and values framework (CVF) | College of Policing (this link may be copied and pasted into your browser). This document will assist you in completing the Evidence of Achievement section of the application form. Please note: the Evidence of Achievement section will not be visible until the employment section has been completed. Shift Allowance No Shift Allowance

Eligible candidates will hold a degree in Audio Engineering, Music Technology, or a similar relevant field, and/or will have equivalent proven experience working in an associated field. Candidates should have a good working understanding of audio production and post-production techniques, knowledge of industry standard sound and video recording equipment, and the ability to assess sound and audio to a defined occupational standard. In addition, you will require a proven ability to use and change between a number of professional digital audio workstation and audio editing software packages with associated software plugins, as well as have some understanding of video editing software packages. An important part of the role is the administrative tasks associated with the audio products produced. These all require exhibiting, recording and documenting, meaning the successful candidate must be well organised with a good eye for detail and accuracy, along with the ability to use a range of bespoke administrative Police computer systems to do this. Experience of recording dialogue and other sound sources, both in the studio and on location would be an advantage, albeit most of the role is office/studio based with source material usually provided for further enhancement.
