Ruby Developer

This position will form part of the exciting Sky Protect IOT Platform Team reporting into the Systems Developer Lead. The role will be part of the Sky Software Engineering team

We're looking for Ruby Developers to join our IoT Platform team, designing, building and optimising backend functions and services as we scale our cloud-based platforms and deliver smart-home solutions to our customers

As a developer within our platform team, you will be responsible for implementation of solutions within the IoT platform and providing second line technical support for customer issues. There is also plenty of opportunity to develop your skills and experience in several directions as the business grows.

What you'll do

• As a Mid-level Ruby developer, you'll be able to get up to speed quickly and bring additional hands-on experience to our team.



• Use techniques such as TDD and Pair Programming to both deliver new and improve existing features.



• Work on a distributed, microservice based system and solve challenges that come with such an architecture.



• Provide support and work with other teams to help solve customer issues.



• Triage and fix bugs that are reported to us, or we discover ourselves.



• Participate in improving observability of our Platform, making it easier to monitor., Network to Business Integration (N2BI) owns and manages systems and infrastructure supporting Sky's mobile and fixed telephony, broadband and IP core networks. N2BI act as an intermediary service function for all broadband and telephony fulfilment, assurance, rating and billing for other departments within Sky.


N2BI works closely with other departments across Sky to provide voice applications to support Sky's fixed and mobile telephony businesses including billing, fraud management and regulatory compliance. This includes drawing up business cases for new proposals and defining their benefits, overall programme management for designated projects and liaison with other areas of IT, networks, voice engineering and the Operations centres to ensure effective delivery.

Responsibility also includes aspects of the architecture, service design and management of the Online Charging System and other aspects for the Policy Control & Charging Architecture (PCCA) used by the Sky Mobile service.

  Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.



• 2 years experience as a back-end developer in a commercial environment



• Excellent communication skills, and be accustomed to operating in small, distributed, cross-functional teams.



• A solution focused mindset, always thinking of the overall objective and understanding the meaning of done means done.



• A working knowledge of Ruby or demonstrated experience of adapting from other languages



• Experience working with RESTful API Development or Pub/Sub Architecture



• Experience using Git



• Nice to have: Experience working with AWS based solutions
