Full Job Description

The Runner role provides support to the production management and editorial teams both in the office and out on location. Normal office hours will generally apply but a flexible approach is required, particularly on location and subject to BBC policies and guidelines. Duties will vary, but are likely to include the following:

  • Assisting with office paperwork and processes.
  • Managing kit, equipment and cards for upcoming shoots.
  • Purchasing and processing expenses.
  • Assisting on location with marshalling members of the public and looking after contributors and On-Screen Talent.
  • Assisting camera crew and production team on location including with kit, sourcing props, managing catering and driving equipment to/from Bristol base.
  • Collecting and delivering rushes to post-production house.
  • Assisting Production Management Assistants, Researchers and Assistant Producers with day-to-day tasks.
  • Contributing ideas for future episodes and assisting in any other general programme duties as required.
  • To carry out all duties in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and with Sustainability in mind.

    At least 2 years of working in TV production and/or on location at events.
  • Great communication skills with the confidence to build strong working relationships with a wide range of contacts.
  • Experience working with High Profile Talent.
  • Confidence with IT systems and the ability to learn new software/systems quickly.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills and the initiative to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise a conflicting workload efficiently and to maintain standards of accuracy and attention to detail when working to deadlines or changing priorities.
  • The ability to problem-solve and suggest effective solutions.
  • An awareness of financial responsibility including some experience with petty cash/managing spend.
  • An awareness of diversity and sustainability and their importance within the production environment.
  • Confident driving various vehicles with a clean and valid driving licence (and for insurance purposes be over the age of 23 as there will be a requirement to drive using BBC issued vehicles)
  • An awareness and appreciation of Gardeners' World brand and a proven passion for working in TV production.
  • Able to travel, overnight and work on location across the UK frequently.
