Full Job Description

The post holder will assist the Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children and will provide highly developed specialist advice to Surrey & Sussex NHS Healthcare Trust (SASH) advising, supervising and supporting staff in the management of potential or actual child abuse and protection.

The Safeguarding Specialist will assist the Named Midwife in providing specialist knowledge and be the lead for highly complex vulnerable groups; Domestic Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy, Mental Health and those with a Learning Disability. The Safeguarding Specialist will use the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills when communication information that is highly complex, sensitive and contentious.

The Safeguarding Specialist will provide individualised care to a group of birthing parents and families with highly complex needs; developing specialised programmes of care when completing safeguarding birth planning.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the Named Midwife, Named Nurses and Named Doctor in promoting high standards of professional practice. The Safeguarding Specialist will assist the Named Midwife to ensure all policies and procedures relating to safeguarding children and young people are updated, implemented and adhered to. The Safeguarding Specialist will assist with the development of a proactive culture towards safeguarding and protecting children.

The Safeguarding Specialist will act as a liaison between the Named Midwife, the Trust and other local agencies, contributing to the safeguarding services across Surrey and Sussex and other Children Services Authorities. The Safeguarding Specialist will assist with the development and delivery of all elements of complex specialist training in order to safeguard children and young people.
