Full Job Description
At EDF, everyone's welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and feels confident being themselves. We're committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We want our future workforce to have an equal gender balance and represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with disabilities, and supporting social mobility. We are a disability-confident employer and will do all we can to support your application, making adjustments as needed. What You'll Be Doing… The Design Authority (DA), as part of the licensee organisation, is responsible for developing the nuclear safety case and maintaining its integrity throughout the full lifecycle of the nuclear power plant. If you join as a Safety Case Engineer in a new build Design Authority (HPC or SZC), you will play an important role in developing and maintaining the safety case. You will provide technical leadership in resolving challenging issues to support the construction, commissioning, and safe operation of the Nuclear Power Plant. You will have opportunities to work in various aspects of the safety case, from developing the main Safety Report to safety justifications supporting modifications. You will also collaborate with different disciplines within the organisation and work with OEM designers, suppliers, and internal/external regulators. Alternatively, if you join our Nuclear Operations business, safety case engineers are responsible for maintaining the safety cases that support normal operations and fault scenarios during the generation and defueling phases. You will provide technical leadership to define and deliver safety case requirements, ensuring compliance within a regulated environment. You will develop skills across various technical and plant engineering disciplines through planned work and by addressing emergent challenges. More specific details on the roles we are recruiting for and our ways of working are available on request.
- A motivated, self-starting, dynamic individual who works with multiple disciplines to drive the development and maintenance of the safety case.
- Someone who understands the bigger picture, can distil data and analysis to define, scope, and strategically plan the safety case.
- The ability to identify and lead pragmatic solutions and integrate technical knowledge into clear, concise, and coherent information.
- Someone who thrives in high-profile, dynamic, time-critical projects, resolving key issues while holding a technical position in a challenging environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously, as well as collaboratively within teams. There is a minimum of an HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar technical discipline, which may be mandatory for certain roles. In both reactor and fuel route safety case areas, we are keen to attract people with experience and/or a desire to develop in disciplines such as hazards (internal/external), structural integrity, mechanical, and general plant.
EDF has a number of opportunities for Safety Case Engineers across all of our licensees. These include roles within our Nuclear Operations business, supporting our generating and defueling power stations, as well as our Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C businesses, where we're building a new generation of nuclear power stations. Join our Nuclear Operations team and support the continued safe generation at our existing PWR and AGR fleet of power stations. Projects focus on safety cases to optimise and extend generating life, driving towards Net Zero. There are also opportunities in both reactor and fuel route safety case areas. Defueling safety cases present new challenges and the biggest step change in AGR operation in over 30 years. This is an exciting opportunity to build skills, experience, and expertise in supporting operating nuclear power stations while making an immediate contribution to the UK's current and future energy and environmental ambitions. If you join our Hinkley Point C (HPC) or Sizewell C (SZC) teams, you will support the development of a new modern safety case for the first new-build UK Nuclear Power Station in decades. Be part of one of the world's largest and most exciting projects, while at the forefront of the UK's climate change agenda and energy policy. When completed, these projects will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes over 60 years, driving Britain toward achieving Net Zero by 2050., We provide a comprehensive Safety Case Engineer/Case Officer and technical training programme, as well as Behaviour-led Technical Leadership training, to support your growth. Power in Diversity... EDF is a great place to work, where everyone is welcome. To fulfil our commitment to doing good for Britain, we aim to have a workforce that reflects and benefits the society we serve. Every team member in our Nuclear Licensee organisations should contribute to and experience the right environment, where everyone is respected and has equal access to opportunities. By valuing diverse points of view and fostering an inclusive climate, we will create a great workplace and a more successful project. We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We want our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with disabilities, and support social mobility. We are a disability-confident employer and will make all necessary adjustments to help with your application and career. Please let us know if you require flexible or specific working arrangements when applying so we can discuss how best to support you. Join us, and together we can help Britain achieve Net Zero. #HinkleyPointCJobs #LI-Hybrid #SizewellC #NuclearOperations #Glasgow #Gloucester #Bristol #London Job Segment: Nuclear Engineering, Power Plant Operator, Power Plant, Safety Engineer, Nuclear, Engineering, Energy
