We are seeking a skilled Safety Engineer with a focus on systems engineering. The successful candidate will contribute to all engineering safety activities and documentation, promote best practices in safety engineering, and provide guidance to our engineering team. Your responsibilities in this role include:

  • Support the development and maintenance of safety engineering processes, tools, and templates to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Promote and uphold company values and procedures, adhering to safety engineering best practices.
  • Facilitate effective communication with internal and external customers, emphasising the importance and benefits of safety engineering.
  • Proactively remain current in best practices and advise the broader engineering team on significant changes in safety regulations, guidance, or customer safety policies and procedures.
  • Support the update of in-house safety engineering processes ensuring they are current, effective, and sympathetic with the overall engineering process.
  • A practitioner of safety engineering processes, tools, and techniques, including Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Particular Risk Assessment (PRA), Zonal Hazard Assessment (ZHA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Generate and review, safety engineering task estimates and ensure the delivery of safety products within agreed timeframes, budget, and resources.
  • Facilitate System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) and support Safety Review Boards (SRB) to plan the safety approach, conduct appropriate safety processes, review safety activities, and demonstrate the achievement of safety objectives and associated mitigations.
  • Author project and product safety documentation in line with project milestones to support the design lifecycle and ensure documentation maturity for reviews.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including safety reports, compliance assessments, and safety case arguments.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses using safety engineering techniques such as FHA, PRA, ZHA, FTA, Common Cause Analysis (CCA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Use and maintain safety engineering tools and software, such as Windchill R&R, Fault Tree +, and DOORS.
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and updates, adapting safety strategies accordingly.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing safety engineering feedback and ensuring compliance with project safety goals.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety requirements into the product development process.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops on safety engineering processes for internal teams.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive safety engineering reports to senior management and stakeholders.

    Proficiency in safety engineering practices, tools, and software (e.g., Windchill R&R, Fault Tree +, DOORS).
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive safety documentation.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex safety information clearly.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide coaching and guidance to peers.
  • Advanced IT skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience in safety engineering within the aerospace or adjacent industries desired.
  • Proven experience in using safety engineering techniques, tools, and regulatory guidance.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining safety engineering documentation and processes.
  • Familiarity with civil and military aerospace safety regulations and standards, such as CS/FAR 25.1309, Def Stan 00-056/00-970, POEMS, SAE ARP 4761/4754, RTCA/DO-178/254/160, MIL-STD-882.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on diverse engineering projects and produce accurate, detailed reports within agreed timescales.
  • Degree level or equivalent in a STEM or adjacent discipline
