Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Centre at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust (SaTH) for a Salaried General Practitioner to join the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) team.
The UTCs are co-located within the Emergency Departments at both sites (Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital) and will receive patients who present with a minor illness and/or injury. The team will comprise of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners with medical cover from GPs and trainees. In addition, the team will work very closely with the Emergency Department, secondary care, Social Services, Mental Health and other specialist services.
The Salaried General Practitioner will be a key member of the UTC and ED team at SaTH and will be providing primary medical services to patients who either self-refer or are referred to the service from ED, 111 or other health care providers.
The post holder will be a GP who will work within the UTC alongside the wider team in the Emergency Department (ED). You will be expected to provide evidence based clinical care to all patients who are attending the service and undertake duties consistent with it, including but not limited to:
o Reviewing and assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems suitable for primary care
o Work as part of the ED and UTC team to provide safe, effective and timely care to patients
Main duties of the job
To demonstrate clinical competencies and to supervise and train junior colleagues to develop skills as required.
To always exercise professional accountability
Support the UTC lead to ensure that UTC policies and procedures are up-to-date and that all staff comply to agreed policies and maintain best practice.
Perform assessment of patient needs, plan and implement clinical treatment
To access diagnostics including bloods, ECGs and X-Rays.
Act as a role model for staffing working in the UTC.
Work closely with the UTC lead, Clinical Director, Service Manager and Emergency Nurse Practitioners to support the orientation and induction of all staff.
Support the leadership team to develop an integrated approach to the delivery of patient care across the UTC and ED.
To maintain working relationships and partnership with all relevant stakeholders.
To support investigations into accidents, incidents and complaints in accordance with SaTH Policies.

To work at both sites (Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) in line with the service needs.
