Full Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. We are looking for Postgraduate students who would be interested in taking on the role of Saturday Club Tutor to lead Creative Writing Drop-in sessions in the lead up to the establishment one of our 6 National Saturday Clubs for 13 - 16 year olds. Writing & Talking Saturday club is going into its 4th year of running at Manchester Metropolitan University and is embedded into the Poetry Library as an educational and outreach opportunity for young people to engage in the university, learning in a new space that differs from school, and offers a holistic approach to exploring the subject areas of the club. Aiming to introduce young people into a world of writing, talking, performance, poetry, podcasting, journalism, tv and media, script writing and character building, reflecting, describing, and narrating the world as seen by them. Club will open doors for young people to consider creative subjects as a serious option for their future and offer club members ways to communicate creatively, to help them understand the world around them and their place within it. Duties include:

  • Designing and delivering drop-in sessions Coordinating with National Saturday Club Trust
  • Mentoring and development of Club co-facilitators, recruited through Rise these student co-facilitators will support your delivery and run their own sessions with your support.
  • Engage with an existing offering and connect with opportunities from across the University to embed your programme into a wider network of outreach and engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate sessions, using resources provided to you, you will be expected to work within GDPR
  • Undertake safeguarding and health and safety training, and keep online forms and registers up to date
  • Plan admin, and communication between the Trust organisation, and any parent or young person queries
  • Log any hours for prep and clear up around workshop sessions.

    Currently undertaking some form of Postgraduate study in a range of disciplines and areas which would relate to Writing, Journalism, Performance, Multimedia and Creative Writing and anything in-between (Taught or Research)
  • Interested in delivering taught content, working with young people and gaining hands on experience in the production and delivery of a fun and creative workshop programme.
  • Strong understanding of creative writing disciplines, including poetry, performance, podcasting, journalism, scriptwriting, and storytelling.
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate creative workshops or programmes.
  • Collaborative mindset, able to work closely with co-facilitators and the National Saturday Club Trust
  • Able to commit to the role from 13 January 2025 to 1 March 2025, including preparation, delivery, and wrap-up tasks.
  • Ability to self manage time, attend meetings and run a programme self directed

  • Previous experience of working on writing and talking saturday club
  • Creative and innovative workshop ideas in relation to the subject theme
  • Specialist practice insight into the subject or theme of the club you are applying to
  • Experience or an interest working with young people
  • Insight or experience in mentoring in some way, an ability to support others
