Full Job Description

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the UK's railway infrastructure? We are looking for skilled Scheme Project Managers (CEFA) to join our team and oversee vital civil examinations and assessments. This role involves managing the full spectrum of projects from simple visual inspections to complex load-bearing assessments on critical structures ensuring the ongoing safety of the rail network. As a Scheme Project Manager (CEFA), you will collaborate closely with various teams, including asset engineers, contractors, and Capital Delivery interfaces, to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You'll oversee a range of tasks, from inspection programmes to managing stakeholder relationships, all within the context of ensuring the structural compliance of the railway. You'll support the project or programme manager to deliver key outputs of complex projects and programmes, taking individual responsibility for the delivery of projects within a particular geographical (i.e. Kent or Sussex).,

  • Safely manage the delivery of CEFA inspections and examinations, ensuring compliance with contractual technical specifications and regulations.
  • Support asset management teams in defining project requirements and overseeing the collation of results to inform future examinations.
  • Work across multiple teams (engineering, commercial, planning) to identify solutions, drive efficiencies, and create robust delivery plans.
  • Identify and manage project risks, implementing mitigations to maintain project safety and success.
  • Manage contractor resources and work allocation, ensuring necessary resources are secured and deployed effectively.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., TfL, Train Operators, Local Authorities), ensuring works are compliant with their requirements.
  • Conduct regular project reviews, assessing progress and performance to inform governance decisions.
  • Oversee site safety, carry out audits, lead accident investigations, and manage rapid responses to incidents.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Management and Works Delivery teams to ensure no obstacles hinder project progress (e.g.
  • vegetation removal, access to structures). Work proactively with planning teams to deconflict worksite schedules and minimise disruptions.

  • Proven experience in a complex project environment, managing teams, planning, and delivering projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience in managing project budgets, with a solid understanding of commercial and financial considerations.
  • Excellent negotiation and commercial skills., Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management (APM).
  • Knowledge of construction design management, safety management practices, and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience in accident investigation and environmental management.
