Scheme Project Managers work across the full portfolio of Network Rails infrastructure investment from minor renewals through to complex multi-disciplinary programmes. Accountable for managing the safe and effective delivery of low complexity projects (LoC 3 and 4) OR working as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the project or programme manager deliver key outputs of complex projects and programmes (LoC 1 and 2) in order to meet client requirements to time, cost, quality, and performance.

This role will be primarily involved in the delivery of Hillhouse Stabling Depot and the delivery of improvement works to the Grade II listed Huddersfield Viaduct including bridge replacements and viaduct strengthening, which is being re-modelled as part of Transpennine Route Upgrade to improve capacity, operational resilience and ultimately passenger experience.

The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with key stakeholders such as train operating companies, freight operating companies and the Local Authority., Accountable for delivery of low complexity projects or parts of complex projects in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Governance of Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Network Rail company standards, current legislation and procedures including HMRI guidance where appropriate.

Support the project Sponsor in preparing and maintaining definitions of the project requirements.

Manage multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others to identify solutions to client requirements and establish a robust baseline plan.

Identify and monitor project risks (threats and opportunities), plan and implement mitigations to them, and respond to other issues that affect the project.

Implement and update resource allocation plans needed for delivery of the project including identification and management of critical resource requirements. Secure resources needed for projects from internal and external sources.

Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.

Managing project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project life-cycle which will inform governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency, and continuing relevance.

Establish, and implement where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects and updating configuration documents as required.

Support accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.

The ideal candidate will have a proactive problem-solving approach, ensuring the project stays on course. With a professional demeanour and keen attention to detail, you'll navigate complexities while maintaining quality and compliance.

Whilst railway experience is desirable, we welcome applications from aspiring Project Managers with transferrable skills and demonstrable experience which would support you in delivering a variety of projects such as Tunnel upgrades, station remodeling and electrification of lines.

Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management.

Achieved PRINCE2 Foundation, APM Project Fundamentals Qualification or equivalent.

Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Successful relevant experience including experience of contracting and project delivery.

Knowledge and experience of project budget management.

Good evaluation and decision-making skills.

Project safety management and Health and Safety legislation knowledge.

Knowledge safety cases in support of projects.

It would be advantageous if you have:

Experience in the Rail Industry Sector (including application of GRIP, and Construction Design Management (CDM) on simple projects).

Knowledge of Network Rail's Project, Investment, Commercial and Procurement practices.

Knowledge of Network Rail Process' such as DWWP &.

Experience in risk identification, assessment and mitigation.

Flexible and pro-active approach.

You will be a team player with willingness to learn, challenge and get involved.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Transpennine Route Upgrade as Scheme Project Manager (IP).

Transpennine Route Upgrade

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.

Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.

Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.

Salary: £43,588 and increasing to £49,037 per annum

Location: This role will predominantly be site based at Huddersfield Site Office Location next to Huddersfield Station or Ravensthorpe Site Office next to Ravensthorpe Station a minimum of 3 days a week, with your base location being either Manchester, York or Leeds.

Contract Type: Permanent, Full time

Office Requirement: Hybrid. 3 days per week site office based, the rest of the time can be working remotely at other Alliance Offices or Home working as agreed with line manager.

28 days annual leave + bank holidays

Employees will be entitled to a 75% discount off leisure travel this includes off peak and super off-peak tickets. Employees will also be entitled to 75% discount on season tickets., Salary: starting at £43,588 and increasing to £49,037 per annum.
