Role Overview:

Arco Academy is seeking a dynamic and experienced School Business Manager to join our growing team. This role is perfect for someone who is eager to take on the challenge of driving a rapidly expanding school to the next level. You will need to have a strong pedigree in change management, transitioning, and income generation. As a part-time hybrid role, the position requires flexibility, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have robust skills in finance, marketing, and strategic operations.

Key Responsibilities:

The School Business Manager will be responsible for the following areas, though this list is not exhaustive:

  • Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and leadership of Arco Academy, ensuring alignment with the School Improvement Plan and School Evaluation Form.

  • Actively participate in Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Advisory Board meetings, and chair or convene other meetings as required.

  • Finance Management

  • Oversee the school's financial operations, ensuring effective budget management and financial planning.

  • Identify opportunities for income generation and manage all aspects of financial reporting.

  • Human Resources and Recruitment

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies, including drafting job descriptions, application forms, and assessments.

  • Manage the recruitment process, including advertising vacancies, preparing interview materials, and conducting staff inductions.

  • Liaise with external HR providers and manage the school's payroll, ensuring compliance with employment laws and internal policies.

  • Office Systems and Administration

  • Ensure the smooth running of the school's administrative functions, including compliance with statutory obligations and data protection laws.

  • Review and update school policies, maintaining accurate records in line with the school's retention schedule.

  • Marketing and Public Relations

  • Lead the school's marketing and PR efforts, enhancing the school's profile and engaging with key stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement strategies to attract students and maintain positive relationships with parents and the wider community.

  • Compliance and Building Acquisition

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and manage the school's facilities, including potential building acquisitions.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

  • Foster strong relationships with all stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and external partners.

  • Act as a key liaison between the school and its wider community, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.


  • Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Educated to degree level with at least 2 years' experience in a similar role.

  • Proven leadership and management experience in a school or a relevant setting outside education.

  • Strong background in change management, transitioning, and income generation.

  • Experience in setting and achieving strategic goals.

  • Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of financial management and HR practices.

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children, and GDPR compliance.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage with a wide audience.

  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects with excellent attention to detail.

  • Personal Qualities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.

  • A school business management qualification.

  • A Master's degree.

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Current first aid certification.

  • An up-to-date, fully enhanced DBS (required before role commencement).
