Full Job Description

Due to a busy and successful start to the new September 2024 term, we are bringing forward our next recruitment for our secondary school Cover Supervisors cohort.

These can be full time or part time roles, or flexible around your availability. They are usually full days (rather than half days).

The role of a cover supervisor in schools has grown over time. You are not required to teach lessons but rather manage lessons during the school day. You will usually be replacing a teacher who is absent from school. The work will be set for you so the pupils will have work for the lesson. You will be in attendance to support pupils as much as possible, providing guidance, help and support throughout the lesson. You will also manage behaviour to ensure it is consistent with expectations and the schools' behaviour policy. You are usually in attendance for the full day at the school which can either be 5 or 6 lessons/periods. There is no expectation or requirement for you to mark work at the end of each lesson or the end of the school day. You will be encouraged to engage with the head of department or faculty at the end of the school day to provide an update on your day.

This is a very exciting and interesting role. Whether you are considering a role in education, have experience already and are looking for additional work or income, or whether you are new but looking to supplement your income or have an interest in education, the role of school cover supervisor could be a good fit for you.

We find that those who succeed in this role are resilient and adaptable. With the ability to develop relationships quickly and a tolerance and flexibility that allows you to work well in the classroom.

We will be there to support you all the way. We provide initial training, particularly around classroom and behaviour management, we then support you when you are in role to help you develop your skills and techniques and enhance those skills your already have and this is then an ongoing process. As with all our staff, we want you to succeed in role and we will be there to help you.
