Full Job Description

Working as a support officer on our helpdesk, you will provide support to our school customers in using and maintaining their school management information system. We support a number of different systems on our helpdesk, currently this includes SIMS, Arbor and FMS. Our service operates from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (including during school holidays). Colleagues work alternately 8-4 or 9-5. Customers contact our team by telephone, email or via our website.

You will also provide support with our team's corporate responsibilities including sending emails; cleaning and checking data; and supporting the submission of statutory returns to the Local Authority, for example end of key stage assessments and the termly school census.

Are you familiar with school MIS packages? We would love you to join our team if you have previous experience of using a school MIS but don't worry if you haven't, we can show you.

You will need to be a confident communicator with excellent customer service skills. You will be able to identify and recognise problems and be able to find solutions. You will also be able to work independently and as part of a team. You will need to be able to prioritise tasks and have good organisation skills.

A knowledge and understanding of schools or education would be an advantage but not essential.

You will need to maintain a high level of product knowledge to provide the best service to our customers.

Wigan Council has been voted 'Overall Council of the Year' at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Education Business Intelligence Unit (EBIU) is a highly regarded team with schools and colleagues/services across the Council. The team delivers 3 service level agreements for our customers: education performance analysis products; management information systems (MIS) support; and a free school meal checking service; as well as statutory functions for the Local Authority. We also provide data analysis and insights for the Local Authority and specifically Children's Services and work closely with the service. We are part of the Joint Intelligence Unit (JIU) which supports the Council in its Data Strategy and use of business intelligence to inform the services provided to residents.

Salary: Grade 5, £24,702 - £27,334 per annum. £12.80 - £14.16 per hour
