Full Job Description

At Imperial College London, we are looking for an outstanding science communicator and writer to join our central communications team and play a key role in telling the stories of Imperial. We are world-leading university for science, technology, engineering, medicine and business. Our people are tackling the biggest challenges facing humanity and shaping a better future. As Science Communications Manager, you will be telling the world about Imperial's research - everything from climate change to space missions, from water pollution to quantum computing, from tackling malaria to exploring the behaviour of birds.

  • You will plan, develop and deliver work that results in positive media coverage across top-tier national and international media, on social media, as well as content for Imperial's own channels.
  • You will provide expert advice on media management and be able to turn your hand to proactive and reactive media handling.
  • We are looking for someone with a track record of working with academics, turning complex issues into compelling content, and working across a variety of channels, including the media, to showcase research.
  • You will have an excellent understanding of how research is conducted across different scientific disciplines and be committed to reporting on research accurately and responsibly. You will be skilled at analysing complex research and communicating it for a lay audience.
  • You will have a proven news judgement and the ability to develop sophisticated media relations strategies, with a good understanding of the media landscape and an ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with key journalists.
  • You will be a skilled writer, able to put together effective media campaigns, press releases and pitches, and copy for social media.

    You will be working to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment, so the ability to prioritise, plan and organise effectively is essential.
