Science Technical Assistant - Term-Time Only

We are currently seeking a Science Technical Assistant (Term Time Only) to help provide a high-quality technical support service to Technical Demonstrators, Technicians, academic staff and students at Bath Spa University, by consistent and timely preparation of equipment and spaces for teaching and ensuring that incidents and requests are handled according to agreed procedures. The role which is term-time-only (working 37 hrs per week, 40 weeks per year) will support departmental colleagues in their daily functions by effective time management and prioritisation of workload.
About the role
You will assist with equipment setup, prepare spaces for teaching, research and workshop events, manage resources, and provide hands-on support to staff and students. Key responsibilities include maintaining health and safety standards, responding to enquiries, monitoring stock, and ensuring labs are clean and well-organised. You will follow instructions in line with all health and safety procedures with clear communications of daily activities and escalation of issues to departmental colleagues. In addition, you will assist technical colleagues in the smooth delivery of teaching and practical sessions.

You will be a have a good working knowledge of lab environments and scientific equipment. You'll bring strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high-quality standards. Proven experience in customer support, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn are essential. You will be familiar with lab techniques, health and safety procedures, and adaptable to a dynamic environment. In addition, you will be a team player who thrives under pressure and is eager to support science courses and modules.

Term time only contract working 37 hrs per week, 40 weeks per year.
Some evening and weekend working may be required for this role.
The arrangement of working hours will be agreed in advance with the line manager.
Grade 4 £26, 038 to £28,081 pro-rata per annum (actual salary £23,119 to £24,933 per annum)
