Full Job Description

The Science Technician will be required to offer technical support to the science department's teachers, ensuring the department operates smoothly. They must ensure that all equipment functions correctly and safely for practical science lessons. Prior experience in a similar role is crucial, as is a solid understanding of scientific concepts and workplace health and safety.

Specific tasks will vary according to the term, however typical duties include:

  • Carrying out risk assessments for practical and technical activities


  • Preparing necessary solutions and equipment for practical experiments


  • Maintaining, repairing and taking inventory of apparatus


  • Liaising with staff over equipment and safety issues


  • Running trials of experiments and demonstrations


  • Supporting the overall work of the Science Department


  • Carrying out administrative tasks to support teachers.


  • The successful candidate will need to be flexible, adaptable and resourceful as well as having high levels of organisation skills. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and participate in any relevant training.

    St Augustine Academy, The basis of this role is working 37 hours per week (5 days per week) term time, + inset days (39 weeks in total) and offering an actual salary of £20,551 - £21,605 (approximately). (FTE £23,893 - £25,119 FTE, WAT grade D pt. 6-9).
