The Role

This is a rarely available opportunity to join our team to help ensure the smooth running of the Science Department. The successful applicant will support the teaching staff and learners, for 25 hours per week, term-time only.

Our Science Technicians provide a vital role supporting staff and students, we are looking for candidates with a passion for physics and engineering - this is an exciting time to join the department within our friendly College. We expect high performance from all our staff and are looking for enthusiastic candidates who are passionate about science to join our team. Candidates should demonstrate their ability and suitability to both the role and the culture of the College.

The College day is from 8.30am to 4.00pm. The College aims to be as flexible as possible and suitable working patterns can be discussed with candidates to ensure there is appropriate coverage within the week.

The Department

The successful Woking College Science Department also offers A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, BTEC Engineering and BTEC Applied Science.

The Department has thirteen members of staff including teachers and technicians and has excellent facilities including eight teaching labs, a dedicated computer room and two preparation areas, all housed in a modern purpose-built building. Student enrolments are very healthy with over 500 students across Yr.'s 12 & 13 and a record number of applications to date for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Exam results are excellent with most students going on to study at their first-choice university including Sciences at Oxford and Cambridge. Ex-students are encouraged to return to the College to provide careers talks and peer mentoring.

The Department has a well-established Excellence and STEM programme supporting students in their applications to Oxbridge and to study Medicine and Veterinary Science. The College has close links with St George's, and Brighton and Sussex Schools of Medicine who offer visiting speakers and student visits.

Students are encouraged to extend their studies outside their lessons and have great success in challenges such as the Physics and Chemistry Olympiads. Extra-curricular activities, visiting speakers and study support groups run by the Department further support student's aspirations.

The Science department is proud of its friendly, dedicated team who share a passion for developing and sharing evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning.

Salary: Actual salary: £13,905 to £14,644 pa, depending on skills and experience, 25 hours per week, term-time only. FTE £23,958 to £25,232 pa, depending on skills/experience. All figures are inclusive of fringe allowance.
