As a Scientific Information Analyst, you will provide expert searching and analysis of scientific, patent and commercial information for colleagues across Johnson Matthey, while advising on available resources and developments in information provision.
You will join our Market & Technology team at a time when Johnson Matthey is expanding our capability in key sustainable markets across the globe.
The attitude you will bring will shape the direction of the role. To be successful, you will be a proactive person, able to interact successfully with internal and external stakeholders. You will probably have a core scientific background and be able to work independently with guidance from the line manager and from other members of the team.
Internally, we would welcome applications from across JM's business units and functions. A potential 6 month secondment could also be considered for the right internal candidate.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide a scientific, patent and commercial information resource for colleagues across the Johnson Matthey Group

  • Carry out expert searching, analysis and visualisation of information using specialist databases, public resources and data manipulation tools. Use initiative and develop innovative and creative solutions to enhance the value to the user.

  • Take direct responsibility for liaison with JM colleagues to determine the requirements of a project and to deliver appropriate results to the agreed timescale

  • Prepare relevant, concise and informative reports focusing on the needs of JM colleague and highlighting the business implications for JMGuide colleagues to end-user tools where appropriate, and provide training in these tools. Support the team with obtaining documents from commercial suppliers using existing arrangements

  • Build relationships with colleagues from across the JM group to promote the service and enable more proactive provision of information

  • Support and guide the dissemination of news and information across the JM group.

  • Experience in the development and use of advanced data manipulation tools to support the above would be beneficial

  • Maintain a strong knowledge of JM's businesses and the science and technology behind them.

  • To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed

    Degree, or equivalent experience, in physical sciences, engineering, information management or a closely related subject

  • Experience using scientific databases, patent tools or competitor intelligence tools AND/OR experience in using data manipulation tools to support Johnson Matthey's businesses

  • Be skilled at and enjoy problem solving through analysis of data and information. Able to identify and summarise relevant aspects in line with customer requirements

  • Demonstrate excellent research skills;

  • Able to demonstrate a broad view and understanding of Johnson Matthey's global operations

  • Knowledge of advanced data manipulation tools (Desirable)
