Here at the world-famous and internationally respected Wellcome Sanger Institute, the Cellular Genetics Programme is seeking a 12-month maternity cover for a Scientific Manager to support the research activities of all our faculty groups. You will sit within our Cellular Genetics Wet Lab Support (Team 279) working closely with the scientific managers and wet lab scientists to deliver the aims of our department.,
- General Laboratory management such as ordering of consumables, equipment and participation in space management activities.
- Project management of a diverse portfolio of research studies - understanding project requirements and monitoring project progression.
- Supporting teams to ensure health and safety compliance.
- Supporting team to ensure work is compliant with HTA regulations and internal governance policies.
- Liaising with internal and external collaborators regarding sample availability, organising the logistics required for the processing of these samples.
- Submitting samples to operations teams for sequencing and monitoring data generation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and adaptable individual to gain exposure to single-cell and spatial technologies and to support the innovative science being delivered within the Cellular Genetics Programme. You will be an effective and diplomatic communicator who can respond dynamically to sudden changing priories whilst dividing your time effectively between multiple faculty teams., Educated to PhD level in biological sciences or equivalent work experience - In depth knowledge and experience of practical laboratory work
- In depth practical experience in basic molecular biology techniques
- Experience of single cell RNAseq protocols, including sequencing library preparation
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Practical experience of working with MS Office
- Good problem solving skills
The Cellular Genetics (Cell Gen) Wet-Lab Support Team is a core team who provides wet-lab and scientific/lab management assistance across the Programme. We work to support the human cell atlassing work that is being undertaken in the different faculty groups. This includes supporting; sample acquisition logistics, sample management and compliance monitoring, the introduction, optimisation and application of specialised cutting-edge single-cell and spatial genomic methodologies and lab space provision and management.
