Full Job Description

Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cold Room/Freezers -22degrees, Fluctuating Temps hot/cold, Office, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Strong Odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products etc.), Will work with hazardous/toxic materials, Manufacturing Scientist I position reporting to the section Supervisor. Works in a team of scientists on the laboratory investigation of Material Qualification Projects, Quality Notifications and Incidents/CAPAs. The jobholder is jointly responsible for the support of the culture media and associated products range and the respective manufacturing processes. This includes dehydrated Culture Media (DCM), Raw Materials, Freeze Dried Supplements (FDS) and Liquid Fill products manufactured in Basingstoke, and prepared media manufactured in Perth and Wesel. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct investigations on various technical projects, such as raw material qualification and Incidents/CAPAs.
  • Carry out small projects within agreed schedules.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different departments to find effective solutions to technical issues.
  • Plan and manage your own work within project boundaries, with guidance from Senior Scientists and Supervisor.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Communicate findings from technical investigations, interpret unexpected results, and propose further actions to resolve issues.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports to support the resolution of Incidents/Change Control.
  • Role involves a practical focus.
  • Perform both laboratory work and project management duties.

    The jobholder should hold a degree or equivalent in a microbiological (or related) subject, though this is not essential, with 0-2 years' experience working in a microbiology laboratory. Experience as an end user of Oxoid products, would be of benefit, but is not essential. The jobholder will be expected to handle class 2 (and 3, depending on vaccination status) microorganisms and hazardous chemicals in a safe manner, according to the department and company safety rules.
