Full Job Description

  • This role is a bank role, with full time hours, Monday to Friday. Each shift is 7.5 hours worked during the hours of 7am to 6pm. You will be ready to start as soon as possible (August start) and available for the next 3 months for the duration of the study. This role is paid via third party agency under an umbrella set up.


  • The Screening Nurse plays a key role in the provision of screening services at our main FluCamp clinic in Whitechapel, London (E1). This role will act as facilitator and organiser to ensure the delivery of daily screening activities.

    hVIVO conducts human challenge clinical trials. The end goal of our clinical trials is to potentially eradicate common illnesses like the common cold and flu completely - or at least make treatment of them as easy and effective as possible. Volunteers are central to the work that we do. Our studies focus on testing new treatments on real people, in a safe, controlled, clinical environment.

    This role provides mentoring and supervisory support to the wider clinic team to maintain a collaborative environment. The Screening Nurse is also responsible for the operational management of resources, equipment and consumables in a cost-efficient manner.

    The Screening Nurse ensures that all staff work in accordance with current regulatory, ICH-GCP and hVIVO processes.

    Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with and the daily management and allocation of workload within the screening environment, close collaboration with hVIVO's Resource and Operations Lead;

  • Preparing, planning and execution of daily screening activities;

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to staff in the clinical/screening environment;

  • Ensure competence in performing daily tasks, including overview of individual Training Folders for clinical staff;

  • Supervision and training of new ancillary staff in the clinical environment as required;

  • Create or review and complete screening related documents e.g. SOPs, logs;

  • Overseeing clinical consumables, equipment maintenance, emergency procedures and material and staff training;

  • Promote and adhere to Company SOP's, protocols and Health and Safety Regulations; and

  • Other duties delegated by senior staff.

    Experience in an outpatient or assessment clinic is essential

  • Ability to manage adverse events or clinical incidents

  • NMC registration essential

  • Completed Immunisation and Vaccination (DPC Healthcare providers)

  • Certificate in intermediate life support desireable

  • Sound clinical knowledge

  • Knowledge of GCP and previous experience in a clinical trials setting is desireable

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to prioritise own workload

  • Competence in the recording of: medical history, vital signs, ECG, phlebotomy etc

  • An understanding of ethical practice and confidentiality

  • Good IT skills including Word and Excel

  • Strong and demonstrated attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and within the team

  • Positive and supportive team player
