Secondary Music Coordinator

Barnet Education Arts Trust (BEAT) is seeking an inspiring Secondary Music Coordinator to lead and expand musical opportunities for young people in secondary schools and post-16 provision in Barnet. This pivotal role will focus on strengthening Key Stage 4 music education, supporting the new A Level Music Consortium, and increasing participation in BEAT ensembles and orchestras. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with school leaders, music educators, and BEAT's leadership team to design and implement effective music education strategies. You will play a key role in shaping Barnet's Schools' Music Engagement Plan, building partnerships with 25 secondary schools and fostering broader collaborations with all 130 schools across the borough, ensuring every child has access to high-quality, inclusive music education that meets the diverse needs of all students., Curriculum Development & Support:

• Provide expert guidance to secondary schools on curriculum planning and delivery, including hands-on support with schemes of work.
• Organise and lead secondary music teacher network meetings to share best practices and accessible approaches.
• Develop and deliver a diverse CPD programme for music teachers, incorporating demonstration and team teaching.
Advocacy & Engagement:
• Foster relationships with school leaders, music teachers, and wider education partners to support music learning in schools.
• Actively promote instrumental learning and participation in BEAT's ensembles and orchestras, ensuring all opportunities are inclusive and accessible.
• Support schools and pupils with the transition from primary to secondary music education, providing additional support when needed for students who may face barriers.
Strategic Development:
• Collaborate with the CEO and Director of Learning and Participation to craft and implement the Schools' Music Education Strategy.
• Align with BEAT's EDI commitments to promote equity and inclusion while increasing access and diversity in BEAT's work.
• Contribute to the overall strategic vision of the organisation.
Operational Leadership:
• Lead the Satellite A-Level Music Consortium, ensuring effective coordination and monitoring of outcomes.
• Organise major events and initiatives to inspire musical engagement across Barnet's secondary schools., This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of music education in Barnet.   A degree in Music or a related discipline., Proven track record of teaching music at KS3 to A-Level.
• Demonstrated success in developing schemes of work and raising attainment.
• Experience mentoring and coaching teachers to improve practice.
• Expertise in leading ensembles and fostering student participation.

• Deep understanding of current music pedagogy and music education hubs.
