Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a fantastic opportunity for a Section Engineer to join our team on the Highways A57 Link Road scheme, this role will be based at Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester. Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage, and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play. We provide high quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers. We provide specialist, reliable, sustainable, and creative advice for asset management planning and implementation in the UK. We put our customers first and prioritise completing schemes safely, efficiently and to a high standard. As a Section Engineer you will Lead and control a section of works, according to a specific discipline, managing a team of Site Engineers and Graduate/Apprentice Engineers. What you'll be doing Some other key responsibilities will be:
- Carry out complex setting out.
- Coach subordinates in the use of setting out techniques.
- Produce Activity Control Plans.
- Actively use the Specification as a reference document.
- Maintain a comprehensive filing system of quality records.
- Identify, raise and action Non-Conformance Reports.
- Identify and raise Technical Queries with possible solutions.
- Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Carry out 'short term', Visitors Induction.
- Produce a weekly programme and measure progress against KPI's.
- Communicate weekly programme and targets to the workforce.
- Collate Weekly Measure information and monitor wastage against budget allowances/KPI's.
- Carry out a labour and plant reconciliation.
- Work to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.
- Shaping society-changing projects whether you choose to work nationally or regionally.
- Keeping quality at the highest levels and meeting design specs to the letter.
- Sharing your expertise and experience to support and develop your engineer.
A relevant engineering degree and professional qualifications, or equivalent. - Up-to-date knowledge of engineering and industry best practice.
- Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work.
- Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card.
- SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
- Understands the principles of Accident / Incident Investigation, with a good working knowledge of the process.
- An understanding of technical requirements and techniques of setting out and coaching of team members.
- Strong knowledge and management of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, Roadworks
- Have a good working knowledge of current H&S Legislation.
- Have a full understanding of technical requirements and techniques of setting out and coaching of team members.
- Possess good working knowledge of Contracts such as the NEC.
- Be an excellent team player, able to work competently and independently without continuous supervision.
- Possess strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills.
