Full Job Description

You’ll help keep our nation moving every single day. A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network.

Your role is a tactical role to assist the Section Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures.

You will supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. Assist in the management of staff as directed.

About the role (External)

You will be a specialist in Signalling & Telecoms. You’ll be working with equipment including signals that control when trains can run, level crossings, and points systems. With your willingness to learn, you’ll develop a huge range of technical skills across a range of manual, electrical and digital equipment.

You will:

· Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.

· Carryout work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.

· Adhere to company policies and procedures.

· Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.

· Prioritize work arising.

· Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.

· Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.

· Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.

· Assist in the allocation of resources.

· Delivery work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.

· Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases and records.

· Undertake a programme of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition checks as directed.

· Assist in the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.

· Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.

· Contribute to your own development and that of others.

· Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.

· Knowledge of resource and work organisation/planning processes and systems.

· Knowledge and experience of signalling inspection, maintenance, renewal and asset condition assessment techniques.

· Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.

· Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.

· Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.

· Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

· Able to coach, influence and develop others.

· Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.

· Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.

· Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

· You’ll need to be within a 60-minute commute of the location that you’re applying for.
