Full Job Description

Responsible for managing the SCS command and control room which will undertake the function of managing the response to any large scale incident that occurs within the SCS Railways Project and/or any incident that occurs within the HS2 footprint that might impact on SCS. The role will also manage the normal monitoring of project CCTV and liaise with the logistics team and the SCS security provider. During any large scale incident, the manager will initially perform the function of Incident Commander (Gold/Silver) and subsequently act as a support facility to the SCS command team once in place.

Whilst this role is predominately Monday - Friday you may be required to perform your duties outside of these hours.

Role Responsibility

  • Managing the control room and staff

  • Ensuring the correct competent staffing levels are in place 24/7

  • Liaising with the security contractor around training and development of control room staff

  • Ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed access into the control room

  • Managing the operational use of CCTV, ensuring compliance with GDPR procedures

  • Undertaking regular checks of CCTV locations to ensure they are fully functioning and providing the optimum picture requirements and liaising with the respective area security managers.

  • Providing support to the area security managers and security contractors supervisors

  • Liaising on a regular basis with the SCS Logistics Team, You'll be a welcomed member of the wider team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility, join one of our networks for women, military or LGBT+ staff, and participate in cultural and social events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador).

    Essential Qualifications & Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Significant experience as a Control Room Manager

  • Competent in the use of reporting systems such as HS2 Horace or similar

  • Detailed knowledge of security technology - CCTV, Access Control

  • Experience in reporting and emergency response procedures

  • Knowledge of Gold/Silver/Bronze procedures during an incident


  • Desirable Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience as a Control Room Manager on a large construction project

  • SIA license

  • Police Clearance Certificate and clean driving license

  • Relevant CSCS Card, A physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term effect (over 12 months) adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities

  • Demonstrated in your application and pre-interview stage that you meet the minimum job criteria and person specification for the role

    The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services


  • The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
