Full Job Description

Your primary responsibility will be the safety of staff and customers, but with training, you will develop an understanding of the services we provide and be able to assist customers with basic enquiries.

At Calderdale, we aim to be innovative and creative in our approach to meeting the needs of our communities. We are always looking for smarter ways to work and welcome any suggestions you may have to improve our Customer First office and enhance safety. For this role, you will need to be fit and healthy enough to work on the floor all day and be able to safely manage conflict situations should the need arise.

Key responsibilities include operating security-related and personal protective equipment, such as radios and body-worn cameras, ensuring the equipment is clean and stored correctly, and reporting any faults to the Operations Lead. You will deliver a highly visible presence in Council buildings, monitor all activity in the area, including via CCTV, to identify and address potential conflicts before they escalate, and safeguard Council premises and equipment.

You will escort customers from the building when necessary and liaising with the Police, including providing statements and evidence, will be part of your duties. Maintaining accurate records of incidents, regularly testing security equipment, and reviewing CCTV systems to gather intelligence relevant to incidents will also be required.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with the opening and closing of services, including logging customer PCs on and off, handling basic customer enquiries effectively while on the floor, directing customers to self-help services or appropriate advisors, and building rapport and trust with a diverse range of customers in a friendly, professional, and responsive manner.

You will maintain good relationships with partner organisations, such as Shop Watch, through effective and respectful communication, handle confidential and sensitive information in line with data protection requirements, and assist in emergency evacuation procedures for the building and provide first aid as needed. A first aid certificate is beneficial, though training will be provided if you do not have one.

If you have the skills and dedication to excel in this role, we encourage you to apply.

We are looking for an experienced Security Officer with a valid SIA Door Supervisor licence to work at our busy Customer First office. You may occasionally be required to work at our other town centre locations.

Excellent customer service skills are essential as you will communicate with a wide range of customers both inside and outside the council. A friendly, polite, and empathetic manner is necessary to ensure appropriate interactions with our diverse customer base. You will need to remain calm under pressure and maintain professionalism when dealing with difficult customers., Disability Confident
