Full Job Description

As a MI5 Security Officer, you'll protect our assets, people and places, and help make our intricate security operation a success. This role is all about anticipation of, preparation for, and prevention of security risks, and you'll receive full training to prepare you for any situation. In London and Manchester, you might be monitoring CCTV, responding to alarms or overseeing access to the building. And in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire, you could be conducting external and internal vehicle checks, or walking the building and its perimeter.

Wherever you're based, you'll be part an inclusive, friendly team of motivated professionals tasked with ensuring our staff, visitors and assets are safe at all times.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, flexible working isn't possible at any location. Please be reassured that we'll work with you to ensure you have a good work-life balance, taking into account any responsibilities outside of work as far as possible.

Roles will be either a 12-hour rotating or day shift (London only) pattern.

Our 12 hour rotating shift workers typically work the following pattern comprising day and night shifts: 2 day shifts (covering 06:00-18:30, including an hour's unpaid meal break), 2 night shifts (covering 18:00-06:30 including an hour's unpaid meal break) and 4 days off.

Our day shift workers typically work Monday to Friday. Each week you will work a different shift pattern of either 06:00-15:00, 08:00-17:00 or 11:00-20:00.

The above times are provided as a guide and exact shift patterns may vary. Please note there are currently 12 hour rotating shifts and day shifts available in London. At all other locations, there only 12 hour rotating shift patterns available. For roles outside of London, you'll require a full UK manual car driving licence and be able to commute to your location for your assigned shift times.

All candidates for this role will attend a general fitness medical, which includes an eyesight test, hearing test, step test and advice on your Body Mass Index (BMI) - but don't worry, you don't need to be a high-performing athlete. We're aware that people may have misconceptions around what a Security Officer 'looks like' at MI5. Please note, we're not looking for a specific 'type' of person. We're committed to ensuring all candidates, regardless of their backgrounds, identities, lived experiences, and perspectives are given the support and training they need to thrive in this role. If successful, you'll need to maintain your fitness throughout the duration of the placement, as periodic medicals form part of the deployment of a Security Officer.

London: £35,042 (day shift) or £39,781 (12-hour rotating shift).
Manchester, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire: £35,847 (12-hour rotating shift).
All salaries include allowances and contractual overtime.

Shift pattern:
London Day shifts: 9 hours, 5 days per week Monday-Friday starting between 06:00am and 10:00am
London, Manchester, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire: 12-hour rotating shifts: 2 days, 2 nights then 4 days off
