Full Job Description
Your primary goal will be ensuring the safety of our staff and customers, but we'll support you with training to assist customers with basic enquiries. In this role, excellent customer service skills are a must, along with a friendly, empathetic manner to interact positively with our diverse customer base. Staying calm under pressure and handling conflict professionally is crucial. What you'll do
- Provide a visible presence in Council buildings and use security equipment (radios, body-worn cameras) to help prevent and de-escalate conflicts.
- Monitor activity, including via CCTV, and ensure all equipment is clean, stored properly, and functional.
- Work closely with agencies such as the police, offering statements and evidence when necessary, and keep accurate records of incidents.
- Support our team by opening/closing services, assisting with floor enquiries, and building rapport with customers and partners like Shop Watch. What we are looking for
- This is a physically demanding role and will require the post holder to be on their feet most of the working day and safely handle conflicting situations.
- Communication and rapport-building skills to foster trust with customers from all backgrounds.
- A first aid certificate is ideal, though we'll provide training if you don't have one. At Calderdale, we're always looking for ways to better serve our communities, and we value fresh perspectives to enhance our services. If you're proactive and dedicated to customer safety, we'd love for you to apply or visit our open morning to learn more.
