Full Job Description

Purpose of Job: To work in partnership with LSAs, class teachers, SENCO and the child's parents to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice and school policies and agreed procedures. To provide support as appropriate to the pupils' individual needs and self-esteem.,

  • Provide particular and skilled support to a named pupil(s) by adhering strictly to the agreed plans as directed by the SENCO and class teacher.

  • Working with the individual or groups of children under the direction of teaching staff, to foster and encourage independence in the pupil. (This includes working away from the named children with other pupils and observing from a distance if appropriate.)

  • Understand specific learning, behaviour and/or learning needs and provide support that is in line with the E.C.H.P. written for that pupil.

  • Establish a positive trusting relationship with the named pupils and parents and keep in contact.

  • Provide regular feedback to colleagues (in evaluation and assessment of learning activities and medical needs with the class teacher, writing reports and records as required)

  • To be proactively involved in planning, organisation and adaptation of learning for the pupils, particularly when lessons have been missed.

  • To actively promote inclusion by supporting the pupil(s) in answering other pupil's questions about the condition/needs.

  • To liaise with staff and other relevant professionals and provide and share information about the pupil as appropriate, attending and preparing for, attending and contributing to meetings as required.

  • To supervise pupils for limited and specified periods including break-times and lunchtimes if required.

  • To assist with escorting the pupil on educational visits ensuring that relevant resources are taken and adaptations made.

  • To understand and apply relevant school policies in relation to health, safety and welfare for all pupils.

  • Attend relevant training and take proactive responsibility for own development

  • To respect confidentiality at all times and adhere to school's "Code of Conduct" which includes use of social networks outside work, "Core Values" and "Behaviour" and "Safeguarding" policies and national "Keeping Children Safe in Education" and PREVENT Radicalisation policies., Collingwood Primary School is a happy, popular school with an ethos of care, teamwork and mutual support where children enjoy coming to school because learning is fun and staff leave for retirement or promotion.
