Full Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a well-established SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Carshalton, dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The Schools objectives are to help every student build confidence, develop emotional resilience, and achieve their academic potential.
The School are seeking a passionate, resilient, and creative Science Teacher to teach up to GCSE level. You will be teaching KS3 and KS4 students with SEMH, who may display some challenging behaviours. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in an alternative education setting and is dedicated to inspiring students with SEMH and/or challenging behaviours.
This is a full-time, long term role with a view to going on a permanent contract. When on contract, the salary will be equal to the main Teachers pay scale plus SEN points.
The Role:
As a Science Teacher at a SEMH school, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and tailored lessons in Science. You will work closely with students who may have experienced barriers to learning and require additional support and flexibility in their approach to education.
Your key duties will include:
+ Delivering Science lessons that are engaging, differentiated, and appropriate for students with SEMH and challenging behaviours.
+ Implementing strategies to support students' social, emotional, and academic development.
+ Creating a positive, structured classroom environment that fosters learning and encourages student engagement.
+ Managing challenging behaviours in a calm, consistent, and proactive manner.
+ Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including support staff, SENCO, and therapists, to ensure students needs are met holistically.
+ Providing pastoral support and acting as a positive role model for students.
The School are looking for someone who has a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with SEMH needs. The ideal candidate will have:
+ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), ECT or equivalent.
+ Experience teaching Science at Key Stage 3 and 4, ideally in a SEND or SEMH setting (though candidates from mainstream Schools with a strong interest in SEMH are also welcome).
+ Strong classroom management skills and experience working with students who exhibit challenging behaviours.
+ The ability to adapt teaching methods to suit the individual needs of students.
+ A compassionate, patient, and solution-focused approach to teaching.
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
+ A commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment.
+ Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
+ A chance to work in a rewarding and fulfilling role where you can make a real difference to the lives of young people.
+ A competitive salary and benefits package.
+ Small class sizes with a high staff-to-student ratio.
If you believe that this is your ideal next teaching job, then please get in touch and apply as soon as possible!
