As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of children with a range of complex needs, including autism and additional learning or medical needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to provide individualized support, ensuring that all pupils can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with autism and complex needs, implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist in delivering tailored teaching activities, using a range of strategies and resources to meet the specific needs of each child.
  • Support students' communication, social, and emotional development using approaches such as Makaton, PECS, or other communication aids.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment, promoting the well-being and engagement of all pupils.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external agencies to support students' holistic development.
  • Help with personal care tasks (if required) for children with additional physical or medical needs, following appropriate training and safeguarding guidelines.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO to ensure continuity of support and effective intervention.

Previous experience working with children with autism and complex needs in a school or care setting.
  • A calm, compassionate, and patient approach, with the ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils.
  • Knowledge of SEN support strategies and tools, such as sensory supports, visual timetables, or social stories.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications in SEN support, childcare, or education are highly desirable.
  • A proactive attitude and a genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential.
