SEN Tutor

ASEND tuition supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don't have a school place. We are looking for an SEN Tutor with Key Stage 3 experience to support an autistic pupil in Aylesbury to help engage her in learning and help with identifying and managing her emotions., We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Aylesbury. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.
We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community.

Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a 15-year-old non-binary student with emotionally based school avoidance and mental health needs. She has not engaged in education since last year and has been approved for a specialist placement. She has ADHD, general learning difficulties, and was diagnosed with autism. She has experienced developmental trauma and struggles with her emotions. She is a young carer. Science, English and Art are her favourite subjects and are a great place to start with building confidence and a relationship with her.

A new teacher will need to have an understanding of neurodiversity, be sensitive to gender identity, and be aware of the impact of trauma on emotional well-being. The teacher should have experience working with students who have trauma and be able to provide therapeutic support for her mental health needs. It is important for the tutor to be knowledgeable about ADHD and ASD, as well as being familiar with considerations that may arise for girls on the spectrum. Building a strong therapeutic relationship with her, providing a safe and supportive environment, and helping her develop coping strategies for managing her emotions will be crucial in supporting her education and well-being.

You'll have some experience with SEN: Autism, SEMH, ADHD
You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
You'll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
You'll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
Use a person-centred approach in their work
Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
