Full Job Description

The Governors are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, energetic, enthusiastic and inspirational leader, with a real passion for all aspects of educational support, to take on the leadership responsibility of our SEND department.

Worden is a small but oversubscribed school and this position would suit an experienced SENDCO looking for a new challenge.

This position comes with a teaching commitment in line with an Assistant Headteacher.

The successful candidate will work closely with the SLT and other Middle Leaders to develop the SEND department and its impact across school. In addition the successful candidate will be responsible for the continuing professional development of the teaching assistants and the development of SEND support in the classroom to maintain the already high standards and drive further improvements.

If you are a committed professional, enjoy a challenge and are passionate about raising standards and making a difference, you are the person we want working with us.

The role grade is MPS/UPS + SEND allowance of £2679 + recruitment and retention allowance payable to an exceptional candidate of £2500 (R&R allowance reviewable after 3 yrs).

The position is full time permanent and required for Easter 2025 onwards or earlier.

The successful candidate will:

- Be a qualified teacher in any educational phase

- Be an outstanding practitioner

- Have a proven track record of support pupils with SEND

- Have the ability to inspire and enthuse others to achieve the highest possible standards

- Have the National SEND qualification or the experience as a SENDCO.

- Be willing to complete the Certificate in Psychometric Testing and Access Arrangements qualification.

In return Worden will offer:

- An environment where staff are encouraged to undertake NPQ qualifications

- An environment where high quality research led CPD is undertaken

- An environment where CPD is NEVER refused

- An environment where unnecessary workload is abolished

- A school where staff are supported in all respects by the SLT

- A dedicated SEND area with a dedicated team of teaching assistants

Worden is a comprehensive Converter Academy that has a proven track record of sustained improvement and growth. In January 2020 the school underwent its second consecutive, and successful, section 8 inspection. Erica Sharman, HMI, confirmed that Academy@Worden continues to be a good school. She also highlighted 'that we have a strong and enthusiastic leadership team who have brought about improvement in all areas of the curriculum, including pupils' personal development. Leaders have improved outcomes for pupils in the GCSE examinations. The progress that pupils make by the time they leave Year 11 is now higher than the national average'.

Worden is committed to promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and appointment will be subject to receipt of suitable references, qualifications and identity checks.

As part of our safer recruitment practices, Worden will be conducting online searches (including social media) on shortlisted candidates. This is in line with the latest guidance from the Department for Education's Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) statutory guidance.

The purpose of these searches is to identify any publicly available incidents or issues related to the candidates that we may want to explore further during the interview process. Any information gathered through these searches that raises legitimate concerns will be discussed directly with the candidate.

Candidates should be aware that by applying for this position, you are consenting to Worden carrying out these online searches as part of the recruitment process.

Visits to look round the school are encouraged and by appointment only
