Full Job Description

RISE@GHC (specialist resource provision at Garth Hill College)

We would like to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic and committed individual to the temporary post of SEND teacher to cover maternity leave. The ability to teach science is desirable, but above all we are looking for a talented educator with a big heart who shares our commitment to excellence and achieving the very best for all our pupils. This Fixed Term Contract is to start in November for one year or until the substantive post holder returns.

Rise@GHC is a specialist resource provision for learners with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and other related special educational needs. The centre is part of Garth Hill College but operates in dedicated buildings within a short walk/drive from our main site. NAS autism accreditation was awarded in 2024.

We are looking for someone who has the desire and ability to:

  • Teach Science ideally.

  • Help our pupils to progress well, achieve and enjoy their learning.

  • Work in partnership with others including parents/carers and multi-agency teams.

  • Create innovative curriculum and teaching plans.

  • Deliver challenging and exciting learning.

  • Contribute positively to the work of the team and the development of Rise@GHC.

  • The College is a happy and vibrant place of learning. We are proud to be a genuinely comprehensive school and offer a wide and diverse range of excellent opportunities, inside and outside the classroom, that we believe enable our young people to develop exceptionally well academically and personally.

Should you have any queries please contact Ms S Barnes at the College on s-barnes@garthhillcollege.com or on

Only applications submitted on the official application form will be considered.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 9am, 23 September 2024.

Garth Hill College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people and expects all employees, workers and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices share this commitment.

This position requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check because it involves contact with (or access to data concerning) children/young people/adults at risk. You will need to tell us about any spent convictions or cautions, which may later appear on your DBS Certificate.
