Full Job Description

The SENDCO, under the direction of the headteacher, will:

  • Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies

    Qualified Teacher Status with 5 years or more teaching experience
  • - The National Award for SEN Coordination or be working towards gaining within 3 years of achieving the post - Thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice - The ability to write policies and reports for stakeholders - The skills to work with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs - SEND, LAC, Pupil Premium, EAL, Mental Health - Experience of working with pupils with a range of SEND - Experience of using a range of assessment tools to identify and meet pupils' needs - The ability to support, manage and overview the work of support staff working with SEND children - The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEND children and adapt the curriculum for a range of needs - The ability to work effectively with the Headteacher and SLT to achieve excellence - Excellent communication skills and an ability to work within a team and liaise with a variety of external agencies - The ability Plan and hold statutory meetings - Excellent management and organisational skills What the school offers its staff - A non-class based SENDCO position - A caring happy school with a strong Catholic ethos - Well behaved and enthusiastic children who love learning - A hard working, dedicated staff team committed to raising standards - A supportive and encouraging Governing Body - A wide range of professional development opportunities Commitment to safeguarding
