Full Job Description

  • Oversee the management of the 5G/4G/LTE/NB-IoT Testbeds infrastructures operate by Digital catapult, ensuring their efficient operation and availability for experimentation and testing purposes.
  • Liaise with vertical industries such as RAN, ORAN, vRAN, 5G Core, manufacturing, logistics, and immersive technology companies. Gather requirements for the 5G testbed and provide technical support to teams developing specific use case applications and services.
  • Collaborate closely with the tech teams in Digital Catapult to configure and facilitate service access within the testbeds, including equipment provisioning and access/firewall (VPN) configuration.
  • Provide L2/L3 technical support to teams working on use case applications and services, resolving technical issues and facilitating project advancement including Network Management; Specify, configure, and set up 5G and EPC core components on the mobile network and MEC software stacks. Manage Docker orchestration and containerization using Kubernetes.
  • Partner with the broader CTO Technology team to establish 5G-related use cases and explore new innovation opportunities, ensuring alignment with the broader Digital Catapult team and delivering comprehensive documentation support.
  • Develop and deliver informative content on 5G technology, encompassing fundamentals, business prospects, and potential roadmaps, to assist industry partners in developing pertinent use cases.
  • Lead Digital Catapult's involvement in existing 5G projects. Coordinate Digital Catapult's input while contributing original research results, participating in project meetings and conference calls, and producing relevant reports and deliverables.
  • Create project proposals that cover technical, commercial, and strategic goals. Communicate these proposals to a range of audiences, from highly technical specialists to senior management. Where appropriate, develop Proof of Concept implementations to back up the viability of project proposals and demonstrate potential value through indicative results.

    Proficiency in configuring and managing 5G/4G/LTE/NB-IoT network infrastructure components, including RAN/core architecture and functionalities.
  • Demonstrated experience in network testing and troubleshooting in a professional setting with a comprehensive networking experience, with a strong understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, and configurations and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, Netstat, … .
  • Experiance in at least one virtualization system (e.g., vSphere, VMWare, OpenStack, KVM) and experience in managing virtual environments.
  • Experience working with network monitoring and management tools, such as Grafana, Prometheus or Nagios.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with excellent communication skills.
  • Minimum, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficient in environments such as Windows, Linux, Ubuntu, and CentOS.
  • Ability to specify, configure, and set up 5G and EPC core components on the mobile network and MEC software stacks.
  • Knowledge and experience with communication networks, systems, and network configuration, including firewall and switch configuration. Excellent understanding of IP and core network protocols such as PTP and protocols like SCTP, SMTP, SNMP, ICMP, TCP/IP, FTP, TELNET, NIS, LDAP, and UDP.
  • Good communication skills and an interest in explaining technology work to and for service developers.
  • Test and Measurement: Skills in RF and 5G test and measurement, including UAT and EMF for health and safety at work.
