Full Job Description

  • Further developing relationships and networks with business and their representative bodies to support Make Work Pay strategic objectives

  • Further developing relationships and networks with the TUC and individual trade unions to support Make Work Pay strategic objectives

  • Using relationships and networks to build cross-Whitehall understanding and capability of the trade union landscape

  • Driving and delivering regular senior engagement across the stakeholder landscape on a wide range of MWP developments, ensuring stakeholder views are fed into cross-Whitehall policy making and delivery

  • Using and building networks to provide strategic input to the Plan to Make Work Pay, identifying risks and further opportunities for change and development

Employment Rights is a top priority for the Government who have set out an ambitious, wide ranging and long-term reform plan for workers rights in their manifesto, The Plan to Make Work Pay.

  • The Employment Rights Directorate (ERD) is at the very centre of delivering that programme and the changes will be delivered by a mixture of primary legislation, secondary legislation and non-legislative measures. This will involve a significant amount of policy development, engagement with business and unions, and programme management.

The work is fast paced and high profile but, most importantly, has a significant tangible real-world impact on the lives of working people.

To accommodate this new priority the Directorate has expanded significantly but retains a working culture that we are exceptionally proud of. We pride ourselves on the high quality and significant quantity of work that we deliver but we are clear that it is our working culture that enables us to deliver that. The Directorate is inclusive, friendly, collaborative, supportive and embraces genuinely flexible working.

As part of the Directorate's expansion, we are recruiting a Strategic Engagement lead to ensure we have the capacity and capability to shape and develop high profile policies in partnership with trade unions and business. This role is expected to be based in ERD but will work across Whitehall to ensure that our engagement is coordinated and having maximum impact.

You will be part of the team which develops and delivers the Government's engagement strategy designed to ensure maximum impact with its stakeholders across the full range of Make Work Pay objectives.
