Full Job Description
Mortuary services for South Tees NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and HartlepoolNHS Foundation Trust are provided collaboratively between the two Trusts and there is arequirement for the post holder to work across Trusts and sites as required.
Post mortemsare undertaken at James Cook Mortuary and the post holder is required to undertake nonpost mortem mortuary duties within North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust andprovide advice and support to staff within the Trust.
Work closely with Trust consultant Histopathologists, trainee SPR, external forensic pathologists and local Coroners Services to enable the provision of a high quality and responsive mortuary service undertaking hospital consented and post mortems as directed by the Coroner
Work directly with funeral services to receive and return patient's into their care so funeral arrangements can proceed
Communicate effectively with other Pathology departments to organise histological, toxicology or blood testing required on patient samples.
Liaise with hospital staff and directly with relatives of the patient to arrange and conduct viewings
Work closely with Bereavement Services to ensure patients can be released promptly
The post holder will assist in the maintenance and development of the mortuary qualitysystem including production and review of standard operating protocols (SOPs), training,development and competency assessment of other mortuary staff and completion ofaudits.

The post holder will participate as part of a team in providing Mortuary and Post MortemServices to South Tees NHS Foundation Trust, North Tees and Hartlepool NHSFoundation Trust, medical staff, Police and HM Coroners, together with Funeral Directorsand other legitimate users of the service.
The post holder will assist the manager to coordinate the activities of staff working withintheir area of responsibility and will oversee the day to day management of the technical team supervising APT's, Mortuary Attendants and the Mortuary Administrator in performingduties to established Standard Operating Protocols (SOP) ensuring resources aredeployed to maximum effect to comply with local and national protocols.
The post holder will assist in the maintenance and development of the mortuary quality system including production and review of standard operating protocols (SOPs), training,development and competency assessment of other mortuary staff and completion ofaudits.
The post holder will provide specialist advice to users of the service within and out with theTrust in a manner commensurate with the sensitive nature of the work.
