Full Job Description

The Senior Assistant Clinical Technologist will work within the Nuclear Medicine Section, and will be expected to carry out a broad range of procedures involving radioactive materials to provide a clinical technical service.

They will assist the clinical staff in undertaking complex nuclear medicine procedures including non-imaging diagnostic acquisitions and assisting in radionuclide therapeutic procedures. The post will involve direct patient contact and so will require a sensitive approach to the patients' needs and an awareness of the confidential nature of patients' information.

To communicate effectively with individuals within Medical Physics, external customers and contractors.

It is mandatory that the post holder undertake further education and training to advance the role and subject to mutual agreement undertake a Nuclear Medicine Apprenticeship and associated degree level training.

To develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others., To be managerially and technically responsible to the Consultant Radiographer, with overall responsibility to the Head of Nuclear Medicine.To take part in a work rota that will include duties in the Nuclear Medicine Physics Department (therapy and diagnostic). This will include planning own workload within this rota.To assist the clinical staff in carrying out a broad range of nuclear medicine procedures and to be involved in direct patient contact, where skill and sensitivity will be essential. These will include diagnostic studies and also include assisting in therapeutic radionuclide procedures.To carry out all duties that involve direct patient contact in a sympathetic and considerate manner, immediately reporting any clinical problems to the Consultant Radiographer (Nuclear Medicine).To conform to safe working practices in the work area, particularly with regard to patient and staff safety.To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the various current ionising
radiation regulations.To maintain and work with clinical staff ensuring departmental Standard Operating Procedures are kept up-to-date and are available on the department's management system (Q-Pulse).To participate in ensuring effective stock control for the clinical area, including ordering radiopharmaceuticals as requested by the clinical staff.
