Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rampton psychology team as an Assistant Psychologist to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the National Learning Disability. The post holder will have the opportunity to join a vibrant busy team of qualified staff and assistants and will be required to work alongside and under the supervision of qualified clinical or forensic psychologists in relation to one or more clinical teams. Under supervision of a qualified psychologist the post holder will provide a specialist psychological assessment and therapy service to ward clinical teams within the Hospital. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy and will offer advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues, working autonomously as appropriate and within professional guidelines and Rampton Hospital's policies, procedures and service priorities. Under supervision you will participate fully in multidisciplinary clinical teams in providing a service to their patients. Will develop knowledge and skills in general aspects of forensic clinical psychology and in particular the assessment and treatment of patients within relevant services. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the service to which they are allocated.

  • To be responsible for providing highly specialist psychological assessments to patients within the National Learning Disability service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in the patients' care.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions, individual and group, within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  • To be responsible for providing safe, compassionate and evidenced based care in accordance with professional codes of conduct and trust policies and guidelines.
  • To maintain records of care and treatment in accordance with trust policies and guidelines.

To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and to provide advice and training to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management. Under supervision to formulate and implement plans for the psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual. A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is desired for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
