Full Job Description

A Senior Civil Technician will lead various phases of planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical 3D model designs and preparation of construction documentation as part of a project team. Responsible for producing high-quality civil engineering designs and drawings, primarily using Autodesk Civil 3D software. This position will lead various projects and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to deliver accurate, efficient, and timely design solutions.

  • Lead, assist and prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and design using Autodesk Civil 3D with various civil project designs including site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, pressurised mains for mission critical facilities.
  • Lead drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Develop 3D models and perform digital terrain modeling, grading, and earthworks calculations.
  • Coordinate with engineers to create detailed engineering plans, profiles, and sections for roads, drainage, stormwater, sewer, and water systems.
  • Lead a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.
  • Lead the quality review of designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to project specifications, regulatory standards, and company CAD standards.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure design accuracy, constructability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Present reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan design projects.
  • Lead design drawings within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Quality review of volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.
  • Incorporate and approve schedules, budgets and project criteria into civil design and layouts for project financial goals.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including engineers, project managers, and other technicians, to ensure timely project completion.
  • Manage and organize drawing files and related project documentation, ensuring that all data is updated and accessible to team members.
  • Train, mentor, and develop staff members.
  • Participate in marketing and client development meetings.
  • Responsible for the civil design QA/QC process.
  • All other duties as assigned.

    Bachelor's in a drafting technology-related subject and a minimum of 8 years of related experience REQUIRED
  • Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Advance understanding of design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D is required, with knowledge of Navisworks and MS Office to develop the design deliverables. Experience with other design tools such as Microstation, Revit, and GIS software is a plus
  • Advance knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
  • Advance knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
